July 4, 2011
In March, 2011, the earthquake in eastern Japan caused serious damage to the Fukushima nuclear power plant, increased
public and government concern over radioactive contamination of food, the environmental and industrial products has led to new testing requirements.
As a global leader in food, environmental, pharmaceutical and consumer products testing, Eurofins announces the establishment of a new Radioactive Material Analysis (RMA) Laboratory.
The Eurofins Tokyo Laboratory possesses professional resources for the testing and analysis of radioactive contamination. In Europe, the Eurofins Germany Hamburg laboratory began radiation testing after the Chernobyl incident in 1986, and has since accumulated a wealth of experience. France has the highest density of nuclear power plants of any country, and the Eurofins Paris Laboratory is one of the few authorized to perform drinking water radioation analysis. Using the analysis techniques and scientific knowledge of the Eurofins Hamburg, Paris and Tokyo laboratories, we have built up our radioactive material analysis testing expertise.
The Eurofins Tokyo RMA Laboratory provides customers with the same reliable analysis as the Eurofins Germany and France laboratories while reducing the testing time to less than a week. The laboratory utilizes Germanium semiconductors (HPGe) and NaI (Tl) scintillation detectors to perform testing analysis for I131, Cs134, Cs137 and Ru103. As the reference for radiation safety certification requirements, the Eurofins laboratory in Hamburg will continue to provide global testing services to customers looking to export to Europe.
In the spirit of corporate social responsibility, all profits from the Eurofins Tokyo RMA Laboratory will go to the Japanese Red Cross and other organizations participating in disaster relief in the area. The establishment of the Tokyo RMA Laboratory reflects Eurofins continuing support for the affected populace!
